New fiber trays for packaged meals from Preferred Packaging, a division of C-P Flexible Packaging, feature multiple compartments and are compostable and recyclable.

The microwave- and freezer-safe GreenStream trays include a peelable liner designed with a tab for easy removal, eliminating food particles that could prevent the tray from being recycled, according to a news release. The PFAS-free trays, composed of bagasse plant fibers, also provide strength, oil resistance and moisture resistance.

PFAS-free products do not contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as forever chemicals.

The engineered surface of the fiber tray is compatible with Preferred Packaging’s recyclable and compostable lidding films, as well as a variety of other lidding films, according to the release.

“GreenStream fiber trays give prepared meals a sustainable packaging upgrade without sacrificing performance,” Chadd Floria, Preferred Packaging general manager, said in the release. “We engineered our fiber trays to provide brands with an economical solution that reduces environmental impact and complies with evolving packaging regulations.”

Preferred Packaging manufactures integrated packaging systems for prepared meals, including multilayer flexible films, thermoformed containers and tray sealing equipment.
